A step-by-step approach leads the teacher through the necessary elements of building relationships, establishing group and individual incentives and maintaining appropriate and predictable boundaries while implementing compassionate and powerful learning tools. Suggested Activities are provided for each section. The STI system was built on insight into student motivation, contextual learning, and pre-requisites to high achievement are stated plainly and supported by solid research in learning theory and positive behavioral supports and intervention.

The manual is not age specific and may be easily adapted to any grade level or group size. The techniques apply equally to both struggling learners and those with aptitude in the superior range.

The STI Training Guide is is most effective when used as an integral part of the STI-BMETS system. It is provided in a narrative format, easy-to-read and broken into ten sections. The manual and accompanying training provides the first critical phase in implementing the S.T.I. approach with students struggling to manage their behavior. Additional materials, such as power point presentations are included in the seminars which may be adapted for particular groups of practitioners and modified for different ages and grade levels of students or clients.
